I love Roy! I always look forward to seeing him, whether it be on the west side, the east or even overseas. The picture to the left is us in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. He’s a world traveler, foodie, and fashionisto!! Roy is a kindred spirit and I’m so thankful he’s in my life. His only flaw is that he doesn’t like “Womanizer” by Britney Spears (lol just kidding roy) and has been trying to get me to shop at Ann Taylor… EWW no thank you!! (no offense to the Ann Taylor shoppers)
Since he’s here now, I thought that I’d interview him, here’s what he had to say.
Bon: Where have you traveled?
Royster: I love traveling, and make it a point to use my passport every year. The world is such a fascinating place and I want to visit all the continents before I die. So far I’m 4/7 there – North America, South America, Asia and Europe. I’ve been to the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Brazil, England, France, Austria, Italy, Mexico and Canada. I feel that you can learn a lot about yourself by visiting new places and experiencing other cultures.
Bon: Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Royster: Out of all the vacation spots I’ve been, the most idyllic, beautiful place is Morro de São Paulo, a village off the eastern coast of Brazil. Four beaches, each one distinct from the rest, no paved streets, absolutely no automobiles, and of course, gorgeous women. I’d love to go back.
Bon: Where do you want to go next?
Royster: I’ve never been to the Caribbean before, so that’s my next destination. I’m planning on going there this New Years for a nice little get away with some close friends. You ready?
Bon: Favorite restaurant of all time? Why?
Royster: I can count on one hand the number of times in my life where I found myself in the perfect situation. By that I mean, out of all the possible things to be doing at that given moment, I realized that there was no place I would rather be than right here at this time in this place with these people. Dinner at French Laundry was one of those rare, special moments. Something like that just doesn’t happen by accident. Just the planning and preparation it took was tremendous. Spending hours on the phone trying to obtain reservations, having to wait for sixty days, flying into San Franscisco, driving an hour and a half to Yountville – all of this effort added to FL’s mystique. It was a transcendent culinary adventure. It was the way life is meant to be lived.
Bon: What is your style?
Royster: My wardrobe can be divided into two categories – day clothes and night clothes. I like to dress comfortably during the day, then take some chances and stand out from the crowd at night. And volume doesn’t necessarily equate to stylishness. I have a ton of clothes but I usually feel like burning down half my closet. As far as brands, I love BBC, Jil Sander, Dsquared2 and Theory. Vince sweaters are awesome. I have 4 pairs of Common Projects shoes and will probably buy some more.
Bon: Favorite look on a woman?
Royster: Females can be so creative with how they look, it’s a shame that so many choose to take the easy way out and just show a lot of skin to get attention. When I go out, I’m amazed at how many girls I spot wearing what I call “the uniform” – Seven Jeans, black top, black shoes. Um…really? To each her own, I suppose. A girl in a tight-fitting wife beater is hotness. The Louboutin red heel is a definitive statement. And accessories really make or break a girl’s look. But honestly, it’s not really what a girl wears that ultimately matters. It’s how she carries herself in whatever she’s wearing. Confidence is always sexy.
Bon: Describe this “fresh beauty”?
Royster: Fresh beauty is the ultimate type of beauty, the height of attractiveness. It’s being pretty without really trying. It’s looking good without relying on the crutch of makeup. It’s making heads turn when you walk into a room. It’s genuine, without the need for plastic enhancements. It’s the Nimedez sisters. It’s being pretty right when you wake up in the morning. It’s beauty, but not necessarily hotness. It’s rare to see, but a sight to behold. It’s Latika from Slumdog Millionaire.
Bon: If there is a heaven, what does it look like?
Royster: Great question. Wow, you know I struggled with this one! Well, I was born and raised Catholic so of course I believe in Heaven. What does it look like? After much deliberation, my answer is…I don’t know! Actually that’s not a cop out. I just don’t think it can be described in mortal terms. I think it’s beyond the comprehension of the human mind. I do hope to find out someday, and I hope to see you there.
I used to blog daily back in 2003 on xanga when we first bought our loft – I would blog about modern furnishings and other happenings going on. I thought since 2009 promises to be a better year than 2008, I should start up again. 08 wasn’t all bad of course, we took several trips to Mexico, can’t complain, and of course there’s my most memorable dining experience ever – the infamous
